Cogent Systems was created in 2011 with the vision of developing a product that would manage market messaging in any industry, with initial focus on the Gas Utility market. Company personnel have over 30 years combined experience in the UK Gas Market.

By 2014 the Cognition platform had been developed and the first application (Annual Quantity – AQ) integrated into the platform. This application allowed the customer as a Shipper to manage millions of their AQ values during the 3-month period allotted to changing AQ values and thus reducing bills from the Transporters.

In 2017 the Nexus project introduced rolling AQ where XOServe produced AQ values monthly and provided these to Shippers. The AQ application was upgraded to manage the new approach of handling AQs and introduced a facility to challenge AQ values the customer identified as erroneous.
Nexus also introduced the ability to reconcile invoices for domestic as well as industrial sites (as was the case before). Cogent therefore introduced the Invoice Reconciliation (IR) application. IR processes millions of Reconciliation Periods (RP) every month as provided by XOServe. Each RP is validated against customer reads to verify that they reconcile and if not why. The customer can then create Contacts for RPs they identify and get the RP changed. This application is currently saving very significant sums on a monthly basis.

A further application was added in 2020 due to the introduction of site class types by the Nexus project. The Class 3 Reads (C3) application was added to handle thousands of daily Smart Meter readings provided by the customer. C3 maintains the correct site class based on these reads and provides details of these reads to XOServe. Large cost savings are made through C3 by provision of accurate class 3 site identification and daily reading values.

Cogent Systems is still run by its original 3 directors and has 2 large utility companies in its portfolio. As a company it has been recognised by our customers that we provide a focus and commitment not readily available at larger companies. We are also rightly proud of our software quality and agility and speed of reaction to customer requirements and fault fixing.
